Hamilton County Courthouse (Hamilton, Texas)

Hamilton County Courthouse (Hamilton, Texas)
Built in 1886, this courthouse was originally designed by the firm of Mason, Martin, Byrnes & Johnston in Second Empire style. In 1931 E. M. Mills headed a remodeling effort that changed it into a Classical Revival courthouse.

What I love about this courthouse is that you would never see a courthouse like it outside of Texas. The state star, the cowboy relief, the buffalo relief, and the native stone are all so quintessentially Texan symbols.

This county was named for a South Carolinian who was influential in the nullification crisis: James Hamilton.
